Parents are always looking for advice on how to raise their children.
Gallons of ink have been spilt, hours of interviews have been shown,
and classes and curriculum are offered all the time. But the greatest
book ever written on parenting was by King Solomon when he wrote the
book of Proverbs. Proverbs is a collection of truthful and wise
sayings from Solomon to his son. Solomon instructs his son in the most
important things in life, namely, how to fear God. Come join Bro.
Michael as he begins this new series through the book of Proverbs
called “The Family Table.” In this first sermon learn “How Not to
Raise a Fool.”

There is an article about IMB missionaries ministering in Haiti. It mentions Dawn Goodwin, who John and Pam Day worked with a few years ago. Below is the text of an email that John and Pam Day recently received from Dawn. Please read the article and keep Dawn, the other missionaries working to help the Haitian people and the Haitian people in your prayers. Also, prayerfully consider what you can do to help the Haitian people in a time of great need. Pray that the Gospel will be heard in a mighty way there. Dawn writes:

I have been staying in Jimani, on the border to HAITI since Jan 16, working in the Good Samaritan hospital translating for doctors and patients; I have been into Haiti 6 times taking Dominican Baptists and Southern Baptists into Port au Prince, acting as liason, translator, and navigator. We have taken tarps, drinking water, clothing, food, sheets and towels, toiletries, and medicine into Haiti on each trip. We (Southern Baptists) are setting two base camps one in Haiti and one at the border to use to bring in volunteer teams to help with aid distribution and medical clinics. I have lost some friends and some friends have lost family members. What you see on TV is how it is, Port au Prince is probably 95% destroyed. It is horrible. The things I have seen and experienced there and at the hospital in Jimani are indescribable. The pain and suffering of the patients at the hospital is also indescribable. I have held hands of patients in excruciating pain, they are hurting, afraid to sleep inside buildings, anxious about their futures, and frustrated. I have worked 18 to 24 days since arriving there. I returned to Santo Domingo last night for fresh clothing and supplies and hope to return later today to the Good Samaritan Hospital in Jimani. God have mercy on Haiti.

Many people today are caught up in any and every book that hits the bestseller’s shelf. However, just because a book is labelled “Christian” and is a bestseller does not mean it is biblical. Such is the case with the recent fiction work The Shack. I recommend that any Christian who is reading or is considering reading this book also read Al Mohler’s blog on the dangerous theological undercurrents that are foamed over under the disguise of fiction. Mohler’s short blog evaluates The Shack in a most valuable way for the average Christian reader. According to Mohler:

The Shack is a wake-up call for evangelical Christianity…. The popularity of this book among evangelicals can only be explained by a lack of basic theological knowledge among us — a failure even to understand the Gospel of Christ. The tragedy that evangelicals have lost the art of biblical discernment must be traced to a disastrous loss of biblical knowledge. Discernment cannot survive without doctrine.
